Appeal of 21 NGOs to the Government of Milojko Spajić regarding the decision for EXPO 2023

Today, 21 NGOs urged to the Government of Prime Minister Milojko Spajić to stop supporting Saudi Arabia for the organization of the World Exhibition EXPO 2030 due to the undemocratic government of that country that systematically violates human rights.

In September of this year, our organizations protested against the decision of the Government of Prime Minister Dritan Abazović to abandon the previously promised support to Italy and support Saudi Arabia, due to the promised donations of that country in the education of Montenegro.

We stated that “We expect the new Government to abandon a mercantile approach to human rights and the rule of law, both domestically and in foreign relations. That means that the Government adheres to the promised support for Italy, its neighbour, and member of the European Union, which Montenegro aspires to join, rather than supporting the undemocratic regime of Saudi Arabia, which brutally and massively violates human rights.”

The vote on the country that will be the organizer of EXPO 2030 will be held on Tuesday, 28 November.

We expect the Government to discuss this initiative of our NGOs at today’s sitting, which starts at 13:00, even though it is not included in the agenda.
