Dr Fedor Černe, Secretary of the National Council for Sustainable Development ofthe Republic of Slovenia. He graduated, did his MA and PhD at the Faculty of Arts, Department of Geography, University of Ljubljana. He started his professional career in the National Planning Agency as a Counsellor for environmental and development issues. In 1986 he was appointed assistant to the Minister for Environmental Protection – Head of the environmental Department. In the period 1991-1993 as a researcher at the Institute of Geography he was focused on different questions related to environmental management. In 1993, he established a private company whose main area of work was implementation if ISO quality management (9001) and environmental management standards (14001). In the period 1995-1997, he was the president of the Ecological Fund Supervisory Board. In 1998 he joined the Negotiating Team for the Accession of the Republic of Slovenia to the European Union as a Member, responsible for chapters 22 (environment), 30 (institutions) and 31 (Other). In the Governmental Office for EU Affairs, he is coordinating the project of cooperation with the civil society.
