Sara Čabarkapa, Active Citizenship Programme Coordinator

Sara Čabarkapa completed her undergraduate and specialist studies in English language at the University of Mediterranean and is currently writing her master’s thesis in Communication and Media at the University of Donja Gorica (UDG). She graduated from the IB Programme at Bromsgrove School in the United Kingdom as an HMC scholar and also successfully completed her high school education at “Slobodan Škerović” Gymnasium. During her studies, she was a scholarship recipient of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), attending in numerous programmes, including the European Academy in Otzenhausen in Germany. She was an active member of the international student organization AIESEC, working on international student internship projects. Also, she completed her teaching internship at the Oxford Centre – a private school for foreign languages. She began her professional career at the British Council, where she worked for six years on regional projects in education and culture. Later on, she spent three years at the National Democratic Institute (NDI), working on programmes focused on citizen participation in local decision-making, interfaith cooperation, strengthening electoral integrity, combating corruption, and cooperation with the Parliament of Montenegro and political parties. She completed the Human Rights School organized by the Centre for Civic Education (CCE) and further specialized in interculturalism, European integration, women’s leadership, and civic participation in decision-making processes in Germany, Austria, Poland, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia. As a volunteer, she translated transcripts for the Srebrenica Memorial Center and was also engaged as a translator by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).  As a recipient of the Swedish Institute scholarship, she completed the Young Professionals Programme focused on E-government at Linköping University. She contributed as an associate in drafting the Guidelines for Enhancing Citizen and Local Community Participation in Decision-Making in Local Self-Governments. She is a member of the Western Balkans Initiative of young experts led by the International Institute for Peace, a Vienna-based think-tank organization, as well as a member of the Belgrade Security Conference Young Leaders programme. Furthermore, she is a trainer in youth programmes at CCE. Fluent in English, Italian, Spanish, and French.
