Ana Vujošević, programme coordinator at the Centre for Civic Education (CCE), on the invitation of the World Association of Newspapers and News publishers (WAN-IFRA) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, participates at the Global media freedom conference, which is being held in Copenhagen from 29-30 April 2015.
Conference is opened and closed by Morgen Jensen, Danish Minister of Trade and Development cooperation. Focus of the conference is on the critical role of media in development of societies, promotion of accountability of authorities, and strengthening of political cohesion in countries of different democratic level. Participants will discuss on the key issues that determine the future of independent media: What can be done to protect independent journalists and individuals who are at risk the most? How to secure future of news given the existing technological, commercial and security risks? How to inspire citizens through media in order to involve them in social issues that are of significance for their own lives in the era of globalism? And finally, how to ensure that media continue performing their fundamental function – limiting the power of decision-makers?
Among other issues, CCE representative will present the findings of the research “Equal chances for all media in Montenegro?“ related to investments in Montenegrin media from public funds during 2013. Also, the modalities of cooperation regarding this issue will be specified with World Association of Newspapers and News publishers (WAN-INFRA), under which support, the CCE will publish its research for 2014, which is also a special recognition for CCE for previous years long efforts in this area.
About 100 representatives of leading media and organisations that deal with the issue of freedom of media, integrity of media, and challenges and possibilities in work of independent media across the world will be present at the conference.
