Practical Tips for Safe Growing Up in the Digital World

Practical advice on protection from various forms of digital violence, such as sextortion, doxing, grooming, and phishing, is the focus of a new educational video prepared for the Centre for Civic Education (CCE) by Montenegrin cybersecurity expert Branko Džakula.

This short and informative video presents concrete examples of online violence, whose victims are very often children and young people. For this reason, it is crucial to work on prevention and the timely recognition of these forms of abuse, as they can have far-reaching consequences, especially for the most vulnerable groups. It is essential that everyone knows there are ways to protect themselves from online violence and that they are not alone in this fight.

The video is designed in a format close to young people, with the aim of explaining digital threats in a clear and understandable way and offering concrete solutions for combating them. In addition to this video, Džakula previously prepared an interactive guide for protection against digital violence for CCE, accompanied by a series of visuals on this topic published on social media.

CCE emphasizes that the key message of both the guide and the video is that violence in the digital space should always be reported and that help should be sought. The goal is for this interactive, youth-friendly content to be shared as widely as possible in order to improve knowledge on this topic not only among young people, but also among their parents, teachers, and the wider community. In this way, resilience to negative aspects of the digital world is strengthened, while solidarity, trust, and shared responsibility in the online environment are promoted. Concrete methods of protection must be known to everyone, and this topic needs to be discussed more frequently.

Protection from digital violence is of crucial importance for the healthy development of children, as they are growing up in the digital age and spend hours online every day. A responsible community must not leave its youngest members unprotected in an environment that is an integral part of their daily lives.

CCE expresses confidence that this video, as well as the previously published guide, will contribute to greater visibility of this issue, encourage young people to speak more openly about it, and motivate institutions to address it more seriously and systematically, as human rights must be protected both in the digital space and beyond it.
