In the hall of the Centre for Civic Education (CCE) diplomas were ceremoniously presented to participants of XXII generation of Democracy School, which is organized by the CCE with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. Diplomas were given to the participants who have successfully completed the programme, by Daliborka Uljarević, the Executive Director of the CCE and Nikola Đonović, the School Coordinator.
The aim of the School is to contribute to raising the overall level of democratic culture in Montenegro through informing and educating students about democracy, its values and ways of its implementation.
The School is comprised of 5 modules in a total duration of four months. The programme is designed in a manner to provide a broader understanding of the idea of democracy and modes in which this idea is being applied in different social spheres. In addition, students acquire theoretical knowledge about what the idea of democracy represents, what does it mean and where does it originate from, what are positive and what negative characteristics of democracy, what does democracy include – as a process of implementation of human rights and individual freedoms, as a way of social life and relations in the society, as a form of government and governance, as an institutional system, as well as how democracy is being (mis)used; and practical knowledge, in relation to the question of how to develop a power of critical observation and tolerant, argumentative and responsible public communication and participation in formulating and proposing policy measures and their implementation.
In the autumn semester, the Democracy School was attended by 28 participants from the entire Montenegro, mainly representatives of political parties, media, NGOs, students and others. They had, within the programme, an opportunity to hear lectures of renowned national and international lecturers, professors of the Montenegrin as well as universities in the region, representatives of NGO sector and journalists.
Diplomas were given to: Aleksandra Milović, Anđela Moračanin, Bojan Bakić, Dijana Dedić, Enisa Babajić, Fuad Lamežević, Ivan Otović, Ivana Jovović, Ivana Maraš, Jasmina Kalač, Jasna Durović, Jelena Kulidžan, Kristina Mićković, Margarita Markaj, Milena Krsmanović, Mira Popović, Nenad Radović, Nina Đurašković, Ognjena Vujadinović, Rajko Golović, Rajko Orman, Slađana Kavarić, Tanja Gačević, Vesna Mijušković, Vesna Zejak, Vladimir Jovanović, Vuk Marković and Zilha Zajmović.
Continuous interest to this programme from its establishment, and the fact that this is XXII successful generation as well, is encouraging and indicating that there are young people who are willing to be socially engaged and active participants in the social process, but also to work on their own capacity building. A new generation is planned for February 2014.
