Centre for Civic Education (CCE) welcomes the decision of Managing Board of the University of Montenegro on calling the elections for the Rector of that institution of higher education. It is important and commendable that the Managing Board of University of Montenegro (UoM) has taken measures in order to correct the failure in terms of being late for calling the elections for the position of Rector, as indicated by CCE.
After the recent public addressing to the Managing Board of UoM and asking for an explanation for not calling the elections for the new Rector (that were supposed to be called until 19 February), the CCE sent an Initiative for calling the elections to Senate and the Managing Board on 21 February 2014.
CCE expects that the procedure for elections of the Rector will be conducted according to the university regulations without further delay and will be monitoring it.
CCE will continue to monitor the work of the UoM management, to point out at failures when these are identified, to call on responsibility of the Managing Board and other competent bodies, but it will always also support every effort made in order to solve those issues in accordance with the law and in public interest.
