In this extremely personal documentary, Lidija Zelović tries to find the answer to question – how to come to terms with one’s own war past? And how to ensure that your children do not suffer the same burden? Zelović grew up in Bosnian city of Sarajevo, former Yugoslavia, where civil war divided the population in 1992. She fled to the Netherlands in 1993. As a war reporter for BBC, later as director, she tried to discover the truth about war. What happens in a family long after the war is over? During the shooting of this film, Zelović discovers that true war smoulders in people. Even inside of her. In order to try and leave the past behind and stop feeling like a refugee, Zelović tries to unravel the source of bigotry… “My own private war” is this year’s winner of Free zone Festival.
