Legal support to the media and journalists

Centre for Civic Education (CGO) provides one year’s free legal support to the media and journalists within the framework of the project “Media for me!”.

Media workers will have at their disposal the advice of the legal team linked to the daily work of journalists, challenges that they face during the production of investigative pieces over which they have some dilemma, as well as other related uncertainties. Legal support also encompasses writing various letters to the competent institutions in the case of their inadequate acting, as well as representation before competent courts and disciplinary bodies.

An important part of providing legal support also refers to the interpretation of the legal framework for investigative issues, when needed, but also legal advice that ensures that journalistic stories, texts, articles, which are the result of the work of journalists, are in accordance with the current legal framework and the Code of Journalists of Montenegro.

This is just one in a series of project activities and initiatives that the CCE implements in continuity, both for local and national media. The aim of all actions is the development of the media environment, ensuring media sustainability, the development of professional journalism and creating an environment in which space for political and other pressures will be narrowed.

Project “Media for me!” is implemented by CCE with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway and the Balkan Trust for Democracy (BTD) of the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
