Hundreds of author or prepared journalist articles in online and press media, dozens of TV and radio pieces, as well as documents that address different fields, are the result of paid three-month-long internship to five students within the project „Media for me“, which ends today in organization of the Centre for Civic Education (CCE).
Jelena Kavarić, Kristina Vučković, Milica Lipovac, Nikola Jovanović and Petra Marković had the opportunity, from 15 March until 15June 2021, through personal contribution to get valuable experience with strong mentor support in the work of television Vijesti, portal Vijesti, Center for Investigative Journalism of Montenegro (CIN CG), radio and portal Antena M, and radio KRŠ.
Five interns were selected after the Media literacy forum, during February this year, in which participated 20 students from different universities in Montenegro. Interested in the Forum were applying through competitive process that generated multiple more applications than the number of planned participants.
The Development coordinator in the CCE, Damir Nikočević, stated that interns had demonstrated an impressive and continuous level of interest and dedication. „Students participated in different kinds of arrangements through media and organizations that deal with the media, and this is supported by their everyday texts, pieces, programme documents that contribute to the strengthening of media content and organizations in which they were engaged“, said Nikočević.
Petra Marković, who was an intern in television Vijesti for the past three months assessed that „in journalism, there are famous 5W+H (what, who, where, when, why and how), but when you come to TV crew you see that it is only a guideline. The real task is to present in two minutes, with your colleagues from technical service, an event that lasted for one or two hours and to make it interesting. This experience learnt me that.“
„During this internship, I saw and learnt what does it mean to be a journalist in redaction. It meant to me that already during bachelor studies I got this kind of experience that will help me later to shape my wishes for the selection of career,“ said Milica Lipovac who did a three-month-long internship on portal and radio Antena M.
Nikola Jovanović, who did an internship in radio KRŠ, states „I am thankful for the opportunity for internship, secured by the CCE, because I got the chance to gain experience in radio journalism. Knowledge and practice that I got for three months of the internship, will definitely mean a lot for the beginning of my journalist career “.
The CCE continues with the development and implementation of programmes in the area of media literacy and capacity building of the media, especially through work with the youth who, within the framework of this internship, strengthen knowledge and skills that will be useful for them in further professional arrangements.
The paid three-month-long internship is organized within the project „Media for me“, which the CCE implements with the support of the Embassy of Kingdom of Netherlands, the Embassy of Kingdom of Norway and Balkan Trust Fund for Democracy of German Marshall Fund of the USA (BTD).
