In a letter addressed today to Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, the Coalition of NGOs demanded that he clarify whether the Government of Montenegro is proposing amendments to the Srebrenica Resolution, and if so, to publicly announce and provide reasoned explanations for the text of those amendments.
It is unacceptable in a serious democratic state that, at the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs from the Prime Minister’s party (The Europe Now! Movement) dismisses media reports on amendments as unofficial information, while on the other hand, a member of the same party speaks of them as a done deal.
In particular, we demand that Prime Minister Spajić, when expressing his views on potential amendments, also disclose whether Montenegro will co-sponsor the Srebrenica resolution alongside them or not, and if not, why not, and whether Montenegro’s vote on the resolution is in any way in question if the amendments are not adopted.
We remind that to date, a total of 106 NGOs and over 350 citizens of Montenegro, mostly public figures, have supported the initiative for Montenegro to co-sponsor this UN resolution, considering it a worthy expression of respect for the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and a responsible approach to the future.
